今天 is the first 一天 of fall semester. And for our newest 学生, it is a 一天 that they will likely remember for years to come.

为什么? Because your first 一天 at UNC is special. It is the start of your UNC education and a lifelong relationship with the university. My first 一天 at UNC was a few weeks ago and I still feel a great sense of excitement when I come to campus each morning.

Being UNC’s 总统 gives me an opportunity to share that excitement with our alumni 社区. Last week, many of us in Carter Hall helped new 学生 move into the residence halls and we joined faculty in welcoming 学生 during convocation. 今天, I greeted 学生 as they walked to class for the first time.

It has been a great start to the semester and an opportunity to enjoy a lot of my own “first” UNC moments. These moments are a reminder of why I’m here. UNC is a great university, with a tradition of academic excellence and a commitment to student success.

While every one of our 学生 has a different reason for choosing UNC, one thing remains constant: once you become a UNC Bear, it becomes our responsibility to help you succeed and graduate.

It is important to me and the university that we continue to help more 学生 graduate 四年后. Along with a student’s landmark experience on their first 一天, walking across the stage at graduation and joining the UNC alumni 社区 is something that they will never forget and that we all cherish.

I look forward to celebrating that moment with them and working with alumni like you to ensure that it happens. Thank you for your connection to UNC.

Once a Bear, Always a Bear!

P.S. I’d love to hear about some of your favorite UNC memories, including your first 一天. Please feel free to share them with me @PresFeinstein and with your alumni association @UNCBears校友.
